Do you do much cooking, or does Danielle create most of the meals?
I would say I’m the secondary cook but I enjoy cooking, I find it quite relaxing. I wouldn’t claim to be particularly good but I conjure up the odd thing.
How much time as a family do you tend to spend in the kitchen?
Quite a lot, I think we’re lucky to have a big kitchen so as a family I think we spend quite a lot of time here.
As an ambassador for Sub-Zero & Wolf and one of England’s best-loved footballers, how important is nutrition to you?
We’ve got a greater understanding of nutrition now. Certainly didn’t when I played football, we’d eat crazy stuff just before a game! Now, I think we’re a little more conscious of eating properly. I’m interested in nutrition and getting the right things inside me.
Have you noticed that your food lasts longer in your Sub-Zero?
Absolutely, it’s a great piece of kit, I love that fridge. The glass front means you can see what’s in there and it’s huge – when it’s full even my four have trouble emptying it! Everyone loves it, they say “wow!”
What’s the favourite part of your kitchen and why?
My wine storage, because wine is bit of a passion of mine.
Have your appliances met your expectations?
They’re amazing, and people that are more expert cooks are always impressed when they see them!
How do they compare to what you’re used to? Can you feel the difference in terms of quality engineering and manufacturing?
Not only are they aesthetically lovely, they are beautifully made. They just feel solid and strong; you can tell when things are brilliantly manufactured, and they are.

Ulrika Jonsson is a Swedish born television presenter who first became famous as a weather presenter.
Together with her husband Brian Monet, she has recently moved into a new family home in South Oxfordshire which sports a state of the art Sub Zero & Wolf kitchen! Ulrika is a keen gardener and has been an avid cook since she was 10 years old.
When asked about her relationship with food Ulrika says that her love of cooking was established when she moved to England in 1979. “My stepfather taught me all the foundations and I quickly developed a love for Italian and French food. Instead of going out at weekends when I was a teenager, I was at home baking and creating a new recipe every weekend.” She says there’s nothing quite as depressing as an empty fridge!
